NOW Magnesium Glycinate FAQ
- What is magnesium glycinate? It’s magnesium bound to the amino acid glycine. NOW uses magnesium bisglycinate from Albion.
- What does “elemental magnesium” mean? It’s the amount of magnesium itself, not the whole magnesium bisglycinate compound. A 2-tablet serve gives 200 mg of elemental magnesium.
- How many tablets do I take? The label says 2 tablets 1–2 times a day with food. Don’t go over the amount on the label.
- How long does a bottle last? There are 180 tablets, or 90 serves of 2. That’s 90 days at one serve a day, or 45 days at two serves a day.
- How is it different from NOW Magnesium Malate? Both are magnesium tablets from NOW. This one uses magnesium bisglycinate, with 200 mg of elemental magnesium per 2 tablets. NOW Magnesium Malate 1000 mg uses magnesium malate, with 113 mg of elemental magnesium per tablet.
- Is it the same as glycine? No. Magnesium glycinate contains glycine bound to magnesium, but it isn’t a glycine supplement. We also stock NOW Glycine 1000 mg if you’re after plain glycine.
- Is NOW Magnesium Glycinate vegan? Yes. It’s labelled vegetarian/vegan, non-GMO, kosher and halal.
- Does it contain gluten, dairy or soy? It isn’t made with wheat, gluten, soy, milk, egg, fish, shellfish, tree nut or sesame ingredients, but it’s produced in a facility that processes these allergens. If you have an allergy, check the label first.
- Can I take it if I’m pregnant or on medication? It’s for adults only. Check with your doctor first if you’re pregnant or breastfeeding, take medication or have a medical condition.
- Is it OK for athletes who are drug tested? Check the current label against the WADA list and Sport Integrity Australia’s guidance before using any supplement in tested sport.
